An obsolete computer with slow internet facility will cause latencies while you change screens and can delay the completion of a project. You should also be updated in the latest software because you need to protect your computer against bugs, virus and hackers.

Skills

Basic knowledge in computer operations and programs is a must. You will be required to reformat documents from one program to another like for example you will b instructed to transfer a MicroSoftword document to MicrosoftExcel format, scan images and text documents for electronic filing, use various search engines to research information of value to your client and et cetera. If you are not computer literate you will find the job very impossible.

Environment

A noisy and chaotic home office is not conducive for this job. This occupation calls for 100% accurate, speedy and efficient handling of information. A delay or error can cause so much financial damages especially if you are handling medical claim forms, medical transcription files, legal documents and other business related documents that can affect customer satisfaction and company decision making.

Attitudes

If you are not comfortable receiving instructions then this is not the job for you. This job entails following of instruction to the letter. You need to be receptive and open to client instructions and never initiate any changes without a client’s approval. You also have to be organized or else you will miss deadlines set by your client. In this data entry job it is very important to be reputed to be a reliable service provider or else you will be out of work because usually jobs are project oriented. Last but not the list you must be driven to work hard and excel or else it would be very easy to give-up in this business

Expectations

Your income in home based data entry jobs is not fixed. You have the freedom to earn as much as you want and can. However, it not just an opportunity to earn extra money but it is a job which is not as easy as it sounds. Be realistic in setting your goals. Do not expect to earn more than $300 in a day if you are new and is just starting in this occupation. You still have so much to learn and start in easy projects first. Once you already have the hang of this job you may start accepting difficult assignments and earn higher. Unrealistic goals may lead to frustrations and will not motivate you to thrive in the data entry work.
