Six years back I was working as a software engineer getting physically ill with a sixty hour work week, no life job. I began seeking work at home jobs and found many that were gimmicks and totally BS. Fortunately, I came across an ESL teaching job and what intrigued me the most was not needing a teacher’s certificate and just having a Bachelor’s Degree. Five years later, I am a successful ESL teacher earning $55000 from home.

If you are looking for a flexible job to be at home with your kids, embrace life and travel, this is the job for you. There are many companies that you can work so you don’t have to tie yourself to just one. With a little bit of guidance you can become an ESL teacher.

First and foremost, I always recommend to work for more than one company and not keep your eggs in one basket. I currently work for four, but really have most of my hours with only two companies. If I want to make some extra cash, I open up more hours.

Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree, Some teaching experience (homeschooling, babysitting, teacher). If you don’t have teaching experience, don’t worry, I can coach you. Some require you to obtain a TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, etc., certificate. Most will higher you without it and you can easily get one later on. I can show you where and how.

* PROS: $23 – $35 an hour
* CONS: Chinese Beijing hours may mean wee early morning hours for some. I am in EST time so I wake up at 4:30 AM for my 5:00 AM class. However, I finish at 9:00 AM, take a nap and then have the rest of the day to myself.
* **Hours:**5 – 9 BJT (Weekdays)5 – 9 BJT (Weekends)
* 2 Students per Class
* 50 Minute Classes
* Get full pay if your Regular students don’t show.
* Get half pay if your trial students don’t show.
* Reliable Pay

I currently work with this company and it is no gimmick. This is the highest paying company. I teach adorable Chinese children ranging in ages 4 – 15. There is no need to know Chinese because this is a fully English immersion curriculum. They have their own platform where you log in, you will teach two children and encourage them to communicate with each other. I also currently work with this company. Between the two, I can work more than fifty hours a week if I want. However, I don’t work these crazy hours any more, but if I need some extra cash, I know I can earn it. This platform is different than Whales where it is very colorful and extremely interactive for the younger Chinese kids.

**Anyone can be an excellent ESL teacher.** If you love kids (and even if you don’t), being an ESL teacher is very rewarding. The best part of all is the flexibility this job offers. You will fall in love with these kids. I have worked in this for so many years that my students have followed me from platform to platform.
