5 Best Tips for Achieving a More Productive Work Day From Home
[ad_1]
Figuring out how to have a more productive work day when you are basically your own boss becomes especially important. When you go to an office everyday and have the threat of a manager looking over your work, it is much easier to at least look as if you are continuing to get things done. If you are working for yourself in a business like Multi-Level Marketing, however, where your home-office is your workplace and your walk from the breakfast table is your commute, then you have to take careful steps to make sure you remain on- task and achieve your goals.
Here are the best tips I have gathered over the years for working from home:
• Designate a Work Space: One of the major problems people who work from home have is that they do not designate a clearly defined workspace. Ideally, you should have a room in your home that you designate as you home office and you should make sure that everyone that lives with you, from your spouse to your children, know that when you are in the room, you are not to be contacted except during an actual emergency. (If you cannot manage a room, then you should at least have a desk that is devoted to work.)
• Keep Regular Work Hours: When you work from home and for yourself, you may be tempted to do away with the notion of the 9 to 5 day. Although you may be able to set your own hours when you work from home, you want to make sure that you do not fall into the trap of having undefined work hours. You should not simply say I'll work when it is convenient during the day and do regular home activities when it is not convenient to work. This is sure to have a bad effect on clients who will not know when to expect to be able to reach you. But it will also have a bad effect on you because you will have to spend extra mental energy throughout the day deciding whether you should be working or just relaxing.
• Dress for the Office: You may be tempted to work in your pajamas. Don't! The less it feels like work, the more likely it is to actually stop being work. Get dressed and keep yourself groomed as if you will have a client and colleagues over, since you never really know when you will.
• Set Clear Goals Each Day: You should always have clear goals set each day, so that you know what you are trying to achieve.
• Don't Become a Hermit: Another pitfall of working from home is that you may lose contact with others over time. Be sure to cultivate professional relationships with others and to have friends or at least acquaintances that you can have regular contact with. This will not only keep you sane, but it provides you with someone who you can call when you need advice on a business matter.
